About Me

Katherine Lapworth

Writing has been an important part of my life: from winning a Birmingham Post writing competition at the age of 7 (and appeared on ITVs Tingha and Tucker show to read it; those of you of a certain age will know the programme - the rest of you will have to look it up) to writing a training manual for people with literacy problems (I still have sleepless nights over that one), writing to entertain, inform, amuse or educate is what I enjoy and am good at.

I have strong research skills and can spot a rogue apostrophe a mile off. I write blogs, books, website copy, newsletters, annual reports, leaflets and social media posts. You name it - if it needs words and/or proofing, I can do it.

I spent several years working for the BBC at Pebble Mill, working in both radio and television for various programmes, but always rather hankered after doing a bit of writing.

I have had several books published, including 'Writer's Guide to Good Style' Hodder Education; 'Trade Secrets' Orion; '10 Years Younger Nutrition Bible' (ghost writer), Transworld; 'Get on a TV Show' Hodder Education' and 'Get Your Book Published' Hodder Education'. The last book, The Writer's Guide to Good Style, was a useful test of my knowledge of grammar. Finally, I think I have sorted out my dangling modifiers.

Trade Secrets

Quote of the Week

I probably get 10-15 unsolicited manuscripts a week that are just addressed to 'Dear Editor'... I just delete them straight away. As editors, we're looking for a reason to say 'No' because we've got so much to do. If you address somebody by their name, it shows the editor that at least you've done some sort of research...
